Lady was the first Sheltie here at Carawind, arriving at 5 months of age in the fall of 1985. She was not what a Sheltie was supposed to be! She was independent, very dominant, stubborn, reactive to other dogs, and snappy when startled. At age 3, I discovered something called "obedience training". She started classes the summer of 1988. The turnaround in her behavior was remarkable! And, I found a new hobby!!
On her first birthday, we brought her the very best present ever - a little boy! My son was born 2 days before Lady turned 1. She became his protector that day, sleeping outside his door every night.
After I started her training, I researched her background. To my horror, I discovered she had come from a puppy mill. That was a mistake I never made again!
Because of her temperament problems, she was a very difficult dog to train, and even more difficult to show. After 18 months of trialing, she finally earned her first CD leg. The title came a month later.
While matching in Open, she developed arthritis in her right front leg. Jumping became very painful. So, retirement came before her CDX.
At age 12, she was diagosed with Lymphosarcoma. Only ome month later, she went to the bridge.
