While I was looking for my second Sheltie, my father made an off-hand comment to my mother about how nice it would be for my young neice to have a puppy. My sister and her daughter had recently returned home. When I found Cara, my mother fell in love with another puppy in that litter. The day I went to bring Cara home, I brought 2 puppies - Trina became my mom's new puppy. Naming her was interesting. My mom wanted to play off her middle name "Katherine", but didn't like Cathy, Katie or any of the other common nicknames. I found "Katrina", which became "Trina". This is the first dog my mom had ever trained, and was looking forward to putting a CD on her.
Unfortunately, cancer had another plan. She was diagnosed with lung cancer, that metasticized to her brain. Trina never got into the ring during her lifetime. Trina came to live with me when my mom went into a convelescent center - from which she never left.
Trina never adjusted to pack life, and was placed with the best friend of 2 very good friends of mine. A couple of years later, one of those friends wanted to put a CD on her, as Trina was fully trained, and was virtually ring-ready. She worked her, and with some assistance from me, earned that CD in 3 trials. I know my mother was proud!
Trina lived a very happy life with Rusty, doing all the things she used to do with my mom - gardening, camping, hiking. She was lost at 13 years of age to pancreatic cancer.
