Pretty
Bird is a male Cockateil, that we picked up from an elderly lady
who had developed respiratory problems and who's doctor had advised
her that the bird could aggravate the condition. He was about
15 years old when we got him. He had spent most of his life confined
to his cage and wasn't allowed to fly around. He was also raised
predominantly on a seed diet.
These were evident
when we got him. He was about an ounce lighter than Tuffy, our
female, and didn't have much development in his chest. He does
not like to be handled and will bite the hand that feeds him.
At these times we affectionately refer to him as "Cat Food",
his nickname.
We
had hoped to provide a companion for
Tuffy.
Although they tolerate each other, they don't really get along
that well. Pretty Bird is very protective of his flock. He doesn't
like it when you pick her up and really gets excited if you take
her out of the room. He does whistle at you and can say his name,
but the mood has to be just right. He is getting better and can
be picked up if the conditions are just right.
