This movie was taken at daybreak on January 21, 2001. It was the first snow of the winter, and Wasaka, my Alaskan Malamute, had been waiting for snow for a long time. It snowed during the night, and at sunrise, the trees were glistening. The snow melted later that day, but for a few moments at dawn, Wasaka was in his element. Wasaka's full name is Champaign's Wasaka Shonk-Ka, an Inuit name that tranlates literally as "Mighty-the Dog." He's 9 years old now, and his days of sled-pulling are pretty much over. But as you'll see, he still loves the snow. I recorded the movie on a Sony Hi-8 camcorder, edited it in iMovie2, and exported it to QuickTime. |
